Don’t Let Them Get You Down Son

Don’t let them get you down son
I know what that’s like
When I was growing up
I fought a different kind of fight.

My life was changed significantly
At a very early stage
And I started to view the world a little differently
Than other kids my age.

I can see it in your eyes
That you going through some drama
Other kids don’t understand or recognise
And you’ve not yet built your armour.

Don’t let them get you down son
They just tease what they don’t know
Remember they’re just kids
And this is your chance to grow.

See they be talking small
As kids do with petit shit
What’s bouncing off your minds walls
Is so much heavier than they can grip.

See the things that make you different
Are going to be the things that make you stronger
But this is where it gets a little difficult
That might take you a little longer.

I know that won’t make your day
Or fill you up with hope
But if you start to walk within
You’ll pass them down the road.

Don’t let them get you down son
For all they are is kids
And they don’t see your struggle
They only see the life they live.

You got to learn to grow yourself
And in turn you can help them all
Them kids going to need a little help
When they really fall.

And most battles that they face
You’ll have fought ten times over
And depending on what the situation takes
You can help them shoulder or help them soldier.

Don’t let them get you down son
One day they might need your help
When the things they tease you about
Happens to themselves.

So you go grow yourself
And you do it your way
And there might come a time
You look back and smile at the chat we had today.

You’d be right to question
And I don’t blame you if you doubt it
If someone had of given me the same advice
Not sure how I’d of felt about it.

Don’t let them get you down son
For all they are is kids
And kids can’t be expected to see your struggle
They should be allowed to be happy in the life they live.

But don’t let them get you down son
As I can see your pain
And every battle’s different
But something here feels the same.

I can see it in your eyes
That you going through some drama
But son if you’re wise
This is where you start to build your armour.
