Change The Fabric

I shall change the fabric
The very sinew of my nature
I will break my habits
Become more selective in my favours.

If I give and don’t get back
As I do, and have often done
Those able but unwilling
Who had my favour, will now have none.

I will cut the ties
No matter how tight they seem to be
And I will redirect my eyes
On advancing me.

Chose a way of living
Giving by my nature
Now deciding to be more unforgiving
To those of means, yet only mean to be a taker.

I’ve given more time and energy
Than even those closest to me know.
Now I’ve only time and energy
For those who help, or wish to grow.
