The Life In You

It’s them days where things don’t fall into place
More quick to fall apart
People maybe show a false face
Play games with your heart.

Some wish you well to your face
Wish you hell behind your back
That, can leave a bitter taste
But we’ve all had our share of that.

Some people like to split the decks
Love to see that drama come
Most have had enough drama in their lives
Only wish to see that drama run.

Still that can leave you low
Which brings you back to you
Do others stop your flow?
Or do you learn to push through?

You can’t get anything done
Without some people talking
When I started sharing poems when I was young?
Sometimes the laughter, would only stop in a room when I walked in.

The main thing is that it stopped
Or at least it temporarily curbed its flow
There’s many times life will leave you knocked
But I know no other way to grow.

There’s so much to take the wind from your sail
So much out there to hold you back
So many defeats upon life’s trail
Don’t add yourself to that.

People will put you down
Don’t put yourself down too
Most people only put you down
Cause deep down they’re hurting too.

We’re all in this the same
We all just dancing to the grave
Which means we all share a similar kind of pain
Just experience and express it in different ways.

So try to be brave in your expressions
And try not become a slave to your defeats
For in my defeats have come some of my greatest lessons
And where grounded, I’ve often found my feet.

If you can show others compassion
Try show some compassion for yourself
And don’t be afraid of action
And pay less heed to talk and a little more to those who help.

You will make mistakes
There’s no other way to help yourself
Times you’ll lose face
Question the good or love in yourself.

But that’s the world of growth
That’s the dance of life
And it’s only with a mix of grit and hope
That we ever find victory in the fight.

There’s so many defeats upon the road
The only real victory is in how we battle
How we help each other with the load
Make it lighter with love and laughter’s cackle.

There’s days everything will be questioned
Days you’ll question everything too
Just try keep learning from life’s lessons
And as much as possible, not let them lessen, the life in you.

I Am The Light

When you are down in the dark
And you are searching for some bright
And there don’t seem
To be much in sight.

Repeat to yourself:

‘That’s alright
I’ve the stomach for a fight
And that must just mean
I am the light’.

When you are looking for some help
To help you make it through the night
Might be a little on your left
Very little on your right.

Repeat to yourself:

‘That’s alright
I’ve the stomach for a fight
And that must just mean
I am the light’.

When you are feeling weak
And you feel a little alone
The pain is sitting deep
But only you can set the tone.

When people can’t fight for you
But there’s fighting still to do
In a world quick to ignore you
There’s only one thing you can do.

Repeat to yourself:

‘That’s alright
I’ve the stomach for a fight
And that must just mean
I am the light’.

When the darkness hits
And you are forced to your pits
You must steal your heart and wits
Put your own spark in it.

The more you fight for yourself
The more light you create
And the more time you give others to help
And give yourself some breathing space.

And if we don’t fight for ourselves
Who’s going to fight with us?
Most people out there
Just be siding with the victors.

So when you are down in the depths
And you are searching for some bright
And there don’t seem
To be much in sight.

Repeat to yourself:

‘That’s alright
I’ve the stomach for a fight
And that must just mean
I am the light’.

This One’s For You

This one’s for you
The one’s who saw me through
The one’s who lent an ear
When I was feeling blue.

Those who gave their time
Those who offered help
Who gave me peace of mind
When I kept much to myself.

Those who gave me floor
A platform to speak
When I struggled in my core
To outwardly reach.

Those who helped me clear my head
Listened to my thoughts
When they were heavy set
And needed getting off.

The one’s who helped laugh through tears
One’s who gave smile to grief
And when dark times appeared
In dark words could speak.

This one’s for you
The one’s who saw me through
The one’s who lent an ear
The one’s that still do.

Here’s to
Something new
But this one’s
For you.

You Don’t Believe In Magic?

You tell me you don’t believe in magic
You ever hear that funky beat?
And you can’t help
But get up on your feet?

Your hands start to glide
Your ass starts to shake
And you can’t help that smile
Stretch wide across your face?

You tell me you don’t believe in magic
You ever hear that bass line lift?
And every motherfucker
Start banging to that shit?

You tell me you don’t believe in magic
You ever been in a room with all your mates?
And every one consumed
With moving in different shapes?

You tell me you don’t believe in magic
You ever been deep down in the shit?
And you just start laughing
Cause you see someone living life and loving it?

You tell me you don’t believe in magic
You ever see old folks shake their hips?
Up on the dance floor
Giving as good as all the kids?

You tell me you don’t believe in magic
You ever see lovers locking lips?
And they couldn’t care less
If others are watching it?

You tell me you don’t believe in magic
You ever see an old couple in their zone?
Laughing heartily like little kids
Together shuffling home?

You tell me you don’t believe in magic
Can you remember your first kiss?
And as you leaned in for the thrill
There’s a beat your heart skipped?

You tell me you don’t believe in magic
You ever hear that funky beat?
And you can’t help
But get up on your feet?

Your hands start to glide
Your ass starts to shake
And you can’t help that smile
Stretch wide across your face?

You tell me you don’t believe in magic
How laughable is this?
When you yourself are magic
So go out and shake your shit.

The Healing Game

I’ve been dealing with heaps of pain
Cause I’ve been deep in the healing game
And you can’t heal without work
Like you can’t feel without hurt.

So if happiness
You want to claim
You got to work
Through your pain.

You can try run from it
Live a life of denial
But when you’re finally forced to face the summit
That might be too big a pile.

The sooner you can run to
The better off you’ll be
Or you’ll carry that pain through
The happiness you see.

Now somethings hurt
And that pain it never really leaves
But putting in the work
Allows that pain to really breathe.

You face the things you’ve lost
Be them others or bits of yourself
You reflect upon the cost
And accept some things can’t be helped.

That’s where the pain grows
Where it really finds its feet
Where there comes some heavy blows
That really get in deep.

But it’s when you push past that ceiling
And get really honest with your feeling
You enter the realms of dealing
And so begin the game of healing.

Some you do by yourself
Some maybe with your friends
We all have our own hells
And our own ways to mend.

But if you don’t air beyond your head
Express to someone else how you feel
You can carry that pain like heavy lead
While somehow denying that it’s real.

They say there is good in talking
There is with those you trust
Or it might be better to keep on walking
Till it feels right to open up.

These are things only you can know
You got to learn to trust how you feel
The process can be slow
But if you’re open you can deal.

And if you can open your mind
You can sure as hell open your heart
And in doing this may find
Your life begins or it restarts.

But when you open up them doors
Know you’ll be dealing with heaps of pain
For when you examine them heavy sores
You’ll be deep in the healing game.

So you take the steps that are natural
And try fear not when you do
Know all pain is natural
And relative to you.

And when the pain breathes its ache
Trust better times be coming through
Learn to trust each step you make
Get in touch with you.

The healing game is what we’re in
There’s no point in being coy
For we’ll be cut time and time again
But we’re in this life for joy.

Now I’ve been dealing with heaps of pain
Cause I’ve been deep in the healing game
But you can’t feel without hurt
And you can’t heal without work.

So if happiness you want to claim
You got to work through your pain
We all caught up in this the same
Lost in the healing game.

Learn to trust each step you make
Get in touch with you
Let the healing game take shape
And take some weight from you.

Tender Years

He’s just buzzing with his girl
They out just hanging out
She laughing off her head
He smiling off his mouth.

They don’t care much
For much but each other
They ain’t much to fuss
They just happy being lovers.

They a sight to see
As they strolling holding hands
He spins her round, I see
She laughing at her man.

I didn’t hear what he said
But it’s clear he’s embarrassed himself
She laughing off her head
He yells,’You better not tell anyone else.’

She starts acting coy
Toying with her man
This man is but a boy
But right now, seems more man than I am.

He grabs her pulls her close
And their eyes light up the night
Whispers something funny I suppose
As their laughter breathes new life.

He helps her laugh away her fears
She silences his screams
As two souls of tender years
Live the stuff of dreams.

Starman Special Edition

The stars look very different today
Now a star is gone
Lives now in a different way
As light rays carry on.

There’s a Starman in the sky
He’d like to say hello
Blackstar said goodbye
Knowing we could not let it go.

A musician, a magician
A poet and a friend
This musician had a beginning
To which I can see no end.

So China Girl, Let’s Dance
Through Changes and Sorrow
As now we must advance
With  more strings, one less Bow.

There’s a Starman in the sky
He came to blow our minds
In so doing he can never die
Through so many lives still shines.

For we can be heroes
We can be free
We can be weirdos
We can just be.

Could not give everything away
Yet gave so many things to us
Ashes to Ashes
Bowie to Stardust.
