Strangers

A row of lonely strangers
At a bar silently exist
As much a stranger to themselves
As the strangers with whom they sit.

Unable to strike a conversation
Though that’s all each really wants to do
Not too skilled in human relation
Struggle for words to speak, so rarely do.

When spoken the words seem meaningless
When spoken the words are few.
All feels broken this bar has an eeriness
Of lost souls, who believe they’ve nothing better to do.

Strange Old Life

It’s a funny old thing, this strange old life
What each day brings, we never know right?
One minute you’re a king, the next you’re landed in plight
One moment you’re at the bottom, next moment you’ve reached your height.
It’s full of ups and downs, immersed in highs and lows
It’s full of somber frowns and misguided large egos
It’s full of fools and clowns trying to star in their own show
And it’s full of hopes and dreams, people never show.
It’s something we observe as well as play a part
It’s something more than words, more than they can even start
It’s something to be felt and heard, experienced with your heart
And it’s for everyone in the herd, whether they’re deemed dumb or smart.
It’s a maker and a breaker, in every kind of way
It’s a giver and a taker, for nothing’s here to stay
There’s no rewind or fast forward just a one option play
Make every person feel like a dog, though every dog will have its day.
It will beat you to a pulp, till you wither away and die
It will cheat you till you gulp, barely resisting the urge to cry
It will take loved ones from you, without a chance to say goodbye
At times, it feels like first it takes the good ones, which will leave you asking why.
It presents unforeseen challenges put there to challenge you
It rips and it damages, all you know, and once thought you knew
No matter how tough you are it manages, to wear down and soften you
And no matter how much you think you can handle it, in the end it handles you.

Though life remains a beautiful circle, just playing its part in evolution
It’s hurdle after hurdle, part time remedies with few solutions
Some who believe in good,  would stand by execution
Preach the name of love and fight the cause against pollution.
It’s a mixed up, muddled up, crazy old ride
And not a mixed up, sinner, has time on their side
When you think you’ve found the truth, it would appear the truth has lied
When you ask the ultimate question, you know the answer will be denied.
You will fall through the pits of hell
Stand tall at the gates of heaven
At times you will ultimately excel
Other times you will stall and meet a dead end.
Fall head over heels, with those you know you shouldn’t
And embrace and feel, what you thought you couldn’t
If you’re lucky life will deal, someone to give you good loving
If you’re unlucky life will steal, leave you to think about what could of been.

It’s a crazy insane trip
Filled with pain some feel forced to skip
But while I’m here I try embrace every bit
Every falling tear and every smile on my lips.
When I embrace it, I want to embrace it with others
Family, relationships, friends and lovers
Loneliness drains, chains, and smothers
Loneliness and pain, if not one in the same, close as brothers.
I share it with others, for we’re all stuck in the same boat
People by my side, give me reason to hope
Have to battle some tides, not always easy to cope
Just enjoying the ride, for as long as it floats.
For make no mistake, this life is a gift
If you’re looking for a break, recognize life is it
So try and make use, no matter how poorly equipped
For the greatest form of abuse, would be in abandoning a floating ship.
For as much as there is pain, there is still so many highs
No matter how much it rains, there will always come clear skies
So keep playing the game, even when there’s tears in your eyes
For no matter what the now contains, the future, always, always, remains a surprise.

Stationary I Sit

Stationary I sit
My body vacantly exists
Mind afar, thoughts from it
Dancing with the stars, in turns and twists.

Peering down
On land and sea
Trying to drown out the sounds
Drowning me.

Mind scans around
For the man I can be
He can’t be found
Only surrounds are seen.

So my mind peers harder
Gazes deeper
Trying to find an outlet
Among life’s maze like features.

Searching for a path
That can be traveled easier
It’s like impossible math
That much seems clearer.

Clear and slightly daunting
A fear in me lies haunting
What I want won’t appear, leave me wanting
Though I feel it’s near, and slightly taunting.

Starman

The stars look very different today
Now a star is gone
Lives now in a different way
As light rays carry on.

There’s a Starman in the sky
He’d like to say hello
Blackstar said goodbye
Knowing we could not let it go.

A musician, a magician
A poet and a friend
This musician had a beginning
To which I can see no end.

So China Girl, Let’s Dance
Through Changes and Sorrow
As now we must advance
With more strings, one less Bow.

There’s a Starman in the sky
He came to blow our minds
In so doing he can never die
Through so many lives still shines.

Could not give everything away
Yet gave so many things to us
Ashes to Ashes
Bowie to Stardust.

Speaking So Sure

Speaking so sure
Feeling so strong
Nothing’s for sure
Could be all wrong.

Fools are full of words
The wise keep less spoke
As words are for the birds
And birds sing every note.

Beware of your predictions
Keep them close to chest
For some of who that listen
Will wish predictions death.

People you may trust
Those you may wish good
Sometimes in emotions depth
Can hate you for your love.

Beware with who you speak
Have caution when you tell
Only let out what you can’t keep
And let those birds sing like hell.

Song For Ireland

Now I could sing a song for Ireland
The country that I love
For when I’m not there, I’m in despair
For it’s her I’m thinking of.
Now I could sing a song for Ireland
Bout her past from where she came
It would have laughs as it would pain
Ireland that’s her name.
Now I could sing a song for Ireland
Bout the men who gave their lives
Left fatherless children and husbandless wives
Cause they’d their freedom in their eyes.
Now I could sing a song for Ireland
Bout her hills and land of green
Her winter chills and summers beam
Of which I often dream.

Now should I sing a song for Ireland
Bout her history of greats
George Bernard Shaw and W.B Yeats
That rest amongst her graves.
Now should I sing a song for Ireland
Of a man upon a bike
Who with such courage and a ferocious might
Proved himself a nations light.
Now should I sing a song for Ireland
Of farmers land and people’s pride
That fertile soil that farmers toil
Charms that spread the countrywide.
Now should I sing a song for Ireland
The place that I call home
Where people welcome me with cups of tea
And I seldom feel alone.

Now would you sing a song for Ireland
Bout her legends and her myths
Her great storytellers and her liquor cellars
We toast with glasses lift.
Now would you sing a song for Ireland
Bout the women across her land
Who when needed have never receded
And are more often the first at hand.
Now would you sing a song for Ireland
The country where I was born
For those emigrated and those who are natives
Who love the splendor of her form.
Now would you sing a song for Ireland
The country that I love
For when I’m not there I’m in despair
For it’s her I’m thinking of.
